Oftentimes, my clients tell me that writing their “About Me Page” is one of the difficult things in building their website (much harder than coding, tbh!).

And I agree! It’s really quite challenging to talk about yourself. BUT the good news is, with the right sugar and spice, you can write an about me page that you can be proud of &, of course, drive more clients to your business.

BUT FIRST, LET’S TALK ABOUT WHY YOU NEED TO CREATE AN “ABOUT” ME PAGE.

Why? Because this is the ground where you connect with your clients.

By reading this page, your client can know that they can trust you and your services. This is a great way to share your background, your team, why you started your business and kind words from your past clients.

With that, they can relate to you and know that you are human like the rest of us.

So, let’s start!

5 Things you Must Include in your About Me Page

THE “ABOUT ME PAGE” PLOT DIAGRAM

Do you remember your literature class with the endless lesson about determining the elements of the plot of the story?

To visualize how to formulate the perfect “About Me” page, I made it similar to a plot diagram. So your visitors can feel like they are reading a short story.

Note that you can always experiment on your own, and it really depends on your preference. This is just a guide that you can follow to give you a gist on what you should include in your “About Me Page”.

#1: WELCOME YOUR CLIENTS WITH A CATCHY HEADLINE

This is literally the first thing your audience will see when they hit your about page. Like every story’s exposition, you can start a powerful statement about yourself, pop a quote, or write an introductory message. The goal here is to welcome your viewers and make them feel comfortable about your website. It’s essential to include here who you are and what your brand is all about.

One of our clients, Klaudia, a photographer, welcomed her audience with a strong message. I love that she opened her about page with her passion for caring and helping people, giving her audience the context of what she offers.

Also how this quote from Megan, an interior designer, perfectly introduced the inspiration of her brand. #WomenEmpowerment!

#2: TELL YOUR JOURNEY IN 300 - 400 WORDS

Just like rising action, you can tell the background story of your business. Like how you came up with your business, your inspiration, why you started, and who is your target audience. You could also include here the details of your team.

Note that you should always know who you are talking to, know their pain points and how you will connect to them.

For example, we can see how Maegan, an interior designer, introduced herself to how she is passionate about making home a happy place for families. Notice how they used their “About Me Page” as their “Our Team” to introduce their group.

It’s also essential to include photos of yourself (if you are a solopreneur) or your team. So that people know that you exist and you are a human, and they can better visualize who they are working with.

PRO TIP: Showcase your quirky side in your photos like Tori, a photographer, to let your visitors know what your personality looks like and that you are fun to work with.

You should also keep in mind that you should limit this to 300-400 words because, honestly, no one reads a website word-for-word. So don’t put too much of it, just the essential things that highlight your experiences in your career.

#3: SHOWCASE TESTIMONIALS FROM YOUR PAST CLIENTS

Including kind words from your clients is the way to help your visitors understand that it’s worth it to work with you or buy from you. This way, you can discuss how you can provide solutions to them.

It’s like the main surprise in a story that leads you to leave an impression that you can be trusted.

Also, If you have brand affiliations or awards, it’s good to show them for extra credibility points. Of course, you can also show your latest work.

These things assist your website visitors and trust you by demonstrating your expertise.

#4: SHARE YOUR VALUES

You could also include your values in life and what you believe in.

For example, you can see below how Mo, a design blogger showcases her values in life.

Personally, having the courage to show your beliefs can develop a different level of connection to your audience.

Just like a falling action, this where you would show what your clients can learn from you.

#5: END WITH A POWERFUL CALL TO ACTION + CONTACT LINKS

You know a book is good if they left you hanging in a good way after reading one. That’s the goal, to leave a strong call to action that will make them click the button and learn more about your business.

Your “About Page” should not only give information and develop trust with potential clients, but it should also encourage them to take action.

“About Me Page” Showcase

Let me summarize this post with the perfect example of an About Me Page from one of our recent clients, Julia of The Postpartum Period.

You can see first a strong headline and a call-to-action button that catches the attention of the viewers. Also, her story is just the perfect amount of discussing what she does and why she does it.

Can I also say that her picture fits the aesthetic of her website? She also spiced up her website with her favorite things, and with that, she’s able to connect to her viewers. Plus, she also has a slideshow of testimonials from her past clients. And lastly, she ended it with CTAs that I know people will indeed click.

Ta-da! Now you know how to formulate your “About Me Page”.

But remember, it’s always up to you how you would arrange the contents that you want. You don’t need to put a lot, just the relevant information that will surely touch the heart of your audience.

Bonus content!

To tell you, I love reading stories on the “about me” page. I feel like even though I don’t know them, I know that I can trust them.

Indeed, it’s inspiring, too, since you know that is not always a success; there are also many struggles and challenges they faced that made them what they are now.

A bonus tip is to write like you’re talking to a friend. You don’t need to write lots of jargon to make you look like a professional because it will make a barrier to your viewers.

The goal is to connect and build trust and showcase who you indeed are.
